How to do well in Astro 1: Astronomical Universe
First of all, let me stress that this course is NOT designed to be tricky.
I want to be very reasonable and teach you about some of the most inspiring
and fundamental discoveries of astronomy. The course does require a reasonable
amount of dedicated work. Here are some tips for doing well:
-
Come to class!
-
Do the reading assignments before class and ask questions on things you
don't understand well.
-
After class redo the readings and bring any further questions you have
to class.
-
Pay attention to the figures and figure captions. Understand how they relate
to the material discussed in the text.
-
Be sure to learn how the ideas discussed in class fit together. Learning
the material is very hard (and boring) if you only try to memorize a huge
number of facts. Understanding how things fit together makes the learning
much easier and more rewarding.
-
Review before the quizzes and the final.
I wish you the best of luck!
