In the movie, the prof offers a version of game where the host decides whether to offer you to change.

This  is not a one player game anymore!

The student gives the "change" answer  which is correct for the standard game (one player game).

The prof  hints him that he is wrong.

The student insists.

The prof agrees.

This does not make any sense. Both are incompetent.

Austin Powers - "I like to live dangerously"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkzMA1jrm00

Movie    Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

Number Two draws at 17 in Blackjack  because he knows that the top card in the shoe is 4.

He comments:  "I like to live dangerously"

Austin stands at 5. He loses agains dealer's 20.

He comments:  "I also  like to live dangerously"

 Does it make sense?

Is he :

a fool?

playing stupid?

ignorant of rules?

fun-loving man?

trying to intimidate the foe?

trying to impress a woman?

trying to make us laugh?

Dilbert Prisoner's Dilemma

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ED9gaAb2BEw

In standard versions,  there are 2 players.

There is exactly one Pareto optimal payoff when both payers respect Code of Silence,

but this is not an equilibrium. There is exactly one equilibrium (both players do Plea Bargaining).

(At the Pareto optimal payoff, the players non necessary  get maximal payoffs - there are many versions.)

It is the same clip by comments are different. Here is my comment.

Nash (Russell Crowe) suggest cooperation (not equilibria) to prevent guys to block each other way. This is a good idea not only about the blonde. The idea to avoid the blonde is wrong, both for equilibrium and cooperative solutions.

One of students pointed it out.

Adam Smith promoted an equilibrium based on self-interest and completion. He mostly ignored cooperation. He was criticized for this in his time and nowadays.
