The new Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report says there is 90% certainty that the burning of fossil fuels
and other human activities are driving climate change. The IPCC report says the rise in global temperatures could be as high as 6.4°C by 2100.
The report also predicts sea level rises and increases in the intensity of hurricanes.
In 2001, the IPCC predicted that sea levels would rise by between 9 and 88 centimetres by 2100, relative to 1990 levels.
The new report says rises could range from 18 cm to 59 cm.
The top end of the range corresponds to a fossil-fuel intensive future (see A1F1 scenario in Modelling the future climate: the baseline scenarios).
But predictions of sea level rise are one of the most contentious areas of the report - very recent research has suggested that rises of up to
140 cm are possible

In the 1971 essay, “Overpopulation and the Potential for Ecocide,” Dr. Holdren and his co-author, the ecologist Paul Ehrlich, warned of a coming ice age.
The effects of a new ice age on agriculture and the supportability of large human populations scarcely need elaboration here. Even more dramatic results are possible, however; for instance, a sudden outward slumping in the Antarctic ice cap, induced by added weight, could generate a tidal wave of proportions unprecedented in recorded history.
The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is supposed to be the last word on unbiased science concerning global warming.
In fact, the IPCC stifles any science that contradicts its man-caused mantra. Rather than hundreds or thousands of IPCC affiliated scientists supporting
its conclusion that man is causing global warming, only 4 did so. The IPCC is a fraud. It must not be used to justify cap and trade legislation.

A brief survey of the literature concerning volcanogenic carbon dioxide emission finds that estimates of subaerial emission totals fail to account for the
diversity of volcanic emissions and are unprepared for individual outliers that dominate known volcanic emissions. Deepening the apparent mystery of
total volcanogenic CO2 emission, there is no magic fingerprint with which to identify industrially produced CO2 as there is insufficient data to distinguish
the effects of volcanic CO2 from fossil fuel CO2 in the atmosphere. Molar ratios of O2 consumed to CO2 produced are, moreover, of little use due to the
abundance of processes (eg. weathering, corrosion, etc) other than volcanic CO2 emission and fossil fuel consumption that are, to date, unquantified.
Furthermore, the discovery of a surprising number of submarine volcanoes
highlights the underestimation of global volcanism and provides a loose
basis for an estimate that may partly explain ocean acidification and rising atmospheric carbon dioxide levels observed last century, as well as shedding
much needed light on intensified polar spring melts. Based on this brief literature survey, we may conclude that volcanic CO2 emissions are much
higher than previously estimated, and as volcanic CO2 contributions are effectively indistinguishable from industrial CO2 contributions, we cannot
glibly assume that the increase of atmospheric CO2 is exclusively anthropogenic.

As the danger of global warming fades, the influence of those who would use it to expand government regulation grows. Neil Maghami of the Capital Research Center investigates those behind today’s climate of environmental alarmism in his October 2009 article, “The Triumph of Environmental Alarmism: Science ‘Czar’ John Holdren and the Woods Hole Research Center.”
In the article, Maghami describes who John Holdren is and why he is significant. Holdren is today President Obama’s science “czar,” and the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). The OSTP is responsible for keeping the president up to date on all matters scientific, ranging from leaps in technology to science ethics issues to climate science. The office helps decide on budget allocations for various research and science programs. Therefore, Maghami argues, the director of the office should be trusted “to make sound recommendations about what the federal government should do.”
However, John Holdren’s scientific background is questionable, Maghami asserts, citing Holdren’s co-authorship of the controversial textbook Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment, which he wrote with radical environmentalist Paul Ehrlich. In this book, Holdren presents arguments for compulsory abortion; the establishment of a “Planetary Regime;” and “zero economic growth (ZEG).”
Maghami goes on to discuss Holdren’s involvement with the Woods Hole Research Center (WHRC), a non-profit institute dedicated to producing science that supports the claims of environmental alarmists. Maghami writes, “From 1994 to 2005, Holdren was vice-chair of the Woods Hole Research Center board of trustees, and in 2005 he became director of the Center.”...

What would you do in his place if you
-checked the raw data and saw what is happening to the climate (nothing much)
-saw that the people who created the scare (Phil Jones, Michael Mann, Keith Briffa) are under inquiry, with legal action stopping
them from further destroying their own records, and new revelations on their science ethos coming out daily, but
-you couldn't speak about it lest millions of fans would vilify you as a traitor, and
-you would stand the real risk of being a scapegoat and have your career and personal safety in danger when it all comes down - soon, it started already.
You would have to get out fast, if only for while, and then come back as the voice of reason. But how?
- get an academic job (ideal place to weather storms, leaves record intact), or
- leave to write a book (less prestigious, you cannot write a book on climate till the dust settles), or
- leave to spend more time with your family (where was your family before?) or
- leave to find yourself (soft hearted fans will love it, the rest will get the shivers)
So I'm glad for Mr. Rivkin, who went into academia, and wish him well.
Under the circumstances, an honest man who isn't a martyr could do no better...
